My thoughts on social media, PR and who, truly, was the very best Thundercat.

Super Happy Birthday Mario!

Mario’s twenty-five this year? Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was prioritising my mates in school depending on their video game console? Telling my parents that if they wanted to hold their head high amongst their peers at the next parent’s evening, I’d get a SNES this Christmas?

Well, I’m made up that the little fella’s getting some recognition in 2010. Ant and Dec, Jamie Redknapp and the kid with the big hair from Diversity wishing him happy birthday; a high-profile parade indeed.

What’s interesting to me, though, is that sharing love for the guy in the red dungarees isn’t afforded to everyone. The international company have been berated over the years for failing to have an official presence on platforms like Facebook and shutting down the opportunity to chat on Bebo and others. Interesting that they’ve chosen to perpetuate their Tech Forum where consumers share technical pointers and, ultimately, ease the strain on Nintendo’s own support staff.

With the Wii still enjoying the best reach compared to the Xbox and PlayStation according to Social Mention, the online conversations still seem to be going on, far and wide. However, it’s pretty apparent that there’s more resting on Mario’s shoulders than the fate of Princess Peach.
